Rails To Trails is a nonprofit group from Washington DC that focuses on converting former railroads into beautiful trails. Not only have they have helped build countless trails across the nation, their work has motivated people to get outside and explore nature.
After realizing the enjoyment and amount of time I've spent on the trails and how frequently I use their online tools, I decided to become a member. Membership includes a subscription to the magazine, Rails to Trails , reduced prices on guidebooks, and a Rails-to-Trails t-shirt. All cool stuff!
Along with local bicycle coalitions, foundations, and advocacy groups, consider becoming a member to Rails-To-Trails Conservancy. A cause that helps create networks of trails across the United States is a good one to be a part of.
