On Sunday I had the opportunity to do three of my favorite things. 1. Talk bikes 2. Hang out with my sister and sister-in-law 3. Drink wine!
Like so many cyclists in Iowa, we’re anxiously waiting for the snow to melt off the bike trails so we can get out and ride. While giving mother nature a couple of more days to finish her work we decided to attend the Ladies Bike Social at Bike World.
Bike World has three locations in central Iowa and was recently voted Best Bicycle Shop in CityView’s Annual Readers Poll. We arrived at the West Des Moines location and were greeted by their friendly staff and asked to sign in so we could be included in their door prize drawings. During the event my sister ended up winning a Dimension bike bell.
After signing up, we were given a goodie bag from Trek. In it was a water bottle, tire levers, Chamois Butt’r, and GU electrolyte tablets. Stopping at the info tables by Raccoon River Trail Association, BikeIowa, and Des Moines Cycling Club, we picked up pamphlets, stickers and great information about rides and trail improvements.
Then it was on to the the food. What a spread! With four varieties of wine to choose from, tasty appetizers, cheesecake, and chocolate, we were all set to enjoy a great snack.
During the presentations a rep from Pearl Izumi wowed us with their latest fashions in cycling and a guide from Trek Travel had us ready to skip town after discussing their cycling vacations. Presentations wrapped up with a demonstration on how to change a flat.
Breaks between the presentations provided us with an opportunity to try on cycling clothes, browse accessories, and talk bikes with sales reps. My sister in-law found some amazing deals on cute cycling clothing.
What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon! It was so cool to see such a great turnout for this event. Being surrounded by women who love cycling made it that much cooler.
